SPECIAL NOTIFICATION:  This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

The Idaho Division of Veterans Services is seeking an Administrator in Boise. The Division seeks an individual who is committed to quality management utilizing a multi-disciplinary team approach. The successful candidate will direct a creative and dedicated staff and be a key player in providing management to the three existing Veterans Homes, the Office of Veterans Advocacy, and the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in the State of Idaho. This person will be an effective liaison with all chartered veteran's organizations in the State of Idaho and will have the opportunity to lead employees and volunteers who are committed to "Caring for America's Heroes." 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the activities and programs of the Idaho Division of Veterans Services as assigned by state law, federal regulations, Idaho Veterans Affairs Commissioners, and the Office of the Governor
  • Direct facility staff and operations including program planning and implementation, security, fiscal, human resources, resident care and education, and facility management
  • Direct budget management
  • Direct and implement systems for monitoring quality of care, security, resident rights, fiscal and program integrity 
  • Ensure facility compliance with laws, rules, policies and standards
  • Serve as facility advocate, provide liaison and coordinate facility activities with other organizations, agencies and department operations, community leaders, organizations, legislators, and the public
  • Resolve conflicts and deal with sensitive issues involving the media, legal advocacy groups, and the public

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in public administration; health care degree and/or experience a plus
  • Ability to understand and ensure compliance with laws, rules, policies, and standards related to the care of and benefits for veterans, long-term care facilities, federal funding sources, employment and civil rights 
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and standards related to the care of and benefits for veterans 
  • Knowledge of functions of medical personnel, chaplains, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care standards, including those pertaining to civil rights
  • Knowledge of organization and staffing patterns of multi-functional long-term health care facilities
  • Knowledge of operation and staffing of veterans' cemeteries  
  • Knowledge of social services program planning and implementation 
  • Knowledge of institutional security measures
  • Experience in managing professional, technical, and medical staff
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and coordinate facility activities with a wide variety of individuals and interest groups 
  • Demonstrated ability to deal constructively with conflict between professional philosophies 
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills
  • Executive presence as well as genuine compassion for veterans, their families, employees, and others touched by the Division's activities
  • Veteran of the United States Military
